In brief

V PLUS PLUS and Ritsumeikan University have signed a partnership agreement to support international finance education and academic exchange between Japan and Cyprus. The first initiative under the agreement is the Global Finance Immersion Program, scheduled to bring five Ritsumeikan University students to Cyprus in February 2027.

Signing the agreement in Kyoto

On 27 October 2026, V PLUS PLUS CEO and CIO Tadashi Tsukaguchi joined Ritsumeikan University President Yoshio Nakatani and university representatives at the Suzaku Campus in Kyoto to sign the agreement.

In his remarks, Tsukaguchi spoke about a skill at the heart of the programme: making decisions when the outcome is uncertain. In practice, that means considering several plausible scenarios, identifying which assumptions matter most and deciding what evidence would lead you to change course.

Three of the five students expected to take part joined a discussion after the ceremony. They shared their academic interests, their career plans and what they hoped to learn from meeting practitioners in Cyprus. The discussion also touched on how they could share what they learn with others at the university after returning to Japan.

From the classroom to practice

The programme will bring students together with finance practitioners and researchers to explore global economics, geopolitics, investment strategy, AI and data analysis, governance and regulation. Lectures will be complemented by quantitative exercises, case studies, simulations and visits to local institutions.

One planned exercise puts students in the role of a Japanese cabinet in the years leading up to the Second World War. Working with the information and constraints facing decision-makers at the time, they will weigh economic and diplomatic choices and consider how each decision changes the options available next. A portfolio construction exercise will pose a related question from an investor’s perspective: how do you build a portfolio when several outcomes are plausible and each carries different risks?

Our role in the programme

V PLUS PLUS has worked with Ritsumeikan University to develop the programme and plans to support its delivery, as well as students’ flights and accommodation in Cyprus. Hosting the students in Cyprus will give us an opportunity to share how practitioners work through uncertainty and to hear how students from different academic backgrounds approach the same questions.

We look forward to welcoming the first group in February and continuing our work with Ritsumeikan University to create opportunities for academic exchange between Japan and Cyprus.
